The US now directly imports more from Taiwan than from China | Gavekal Research
Gavekal Research: "US imports from Taiwan have recently surpassed imports from China for the first time since 1992. At least three different factors explain this dramatic shift.
First is the big surge in volume and prices of semiconductor exports of Taiwan because of the AI boom.
Second, supply chain concerns have prompted prominent US chip firms to import chips fabricated in Taiwan and elsewhere to the US for security checks before being shipped to their final destinations.
Last but not the least, tariff pressures have forced Chinese exports to the US to be rerouted via third countries in Southeast Asia.
