Dollar global transaction use jumps to new high, Swift says | 22 Jan 2026 | Bloomberg
Bloomberg : The **greenback’s **portion of international transactions rose to 50.5% in December, up from 46.8% a month earlier, according to the latest data compiled by global financial messaging service Swift, or the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication. That’s the highest share since 2023 when the Belgium-headquartered consortium revised how it collects the transaction data.
The world’s primary reserve currency was followed by the euro, which carried about a 22% share, then the pound, Canadian dollar, **yen **and Chinese yuan.
Separate Bank of International Settlements data shows the dollar on at least one side of 89% of all foreign-exchange transactions as of April 2025, while the Federal Reserve some .
